Narendra Modi brought 'development without discrimination' in Gujarat: Jaitley

Ahmedabad: Backing Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi firmly, senior leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Arun Jaitley today said that Mr Modi had brought about "development without discrimination" in the state.

Mr Jaitley's comments came after he joined the chief minister's three-day 'Sadbhavana' fast that began today in Ahmedabad. The occasion also saw BJP stalwart LK Advani in attendance among a host of other party leaders and allies.

Heaping generous praise on the Gujarat chief minister, Mr Jaitley said, "Narendra Modi has had a good track record for the past 9 years...he has set a twin agenda of harmony and development".

This was in resonance with Mr Modi's speech today where he constantly stressed on how the state was marching on the path of economic progress and development despite several setbacks and criticism.

Mr Jaitley also seized on the opportunity to underline the fact that Modi was a "victim of hostile propaganda". The party, alongwith Mr Modi, has been emboldened by the recent Supreme Court order which refused to rule into the merits of the case against Mr Modi in connection with the post-Godhra riots in 2002. It instead directed a trail court in the state to look into the case. The order - considered a major relief for the Gujarat Chief Minister- was immediately hailed by the party as a vindication of sorts. Mr Modi himself tweeted later, saying, "God is Great".
