New Delhi: With pulses at Rs 170 and tomatoes at Rs 100 per kg, Congress today came down hard on the Narendra Modi government accusing it of breaking all records on price rise.
Congress spokesman Ajay Maken said that the common man is hit hard with the rising prices of essential commodities and food retail inflation at 7.55 per cent, a 21 month high. It appears that this government is not concerned with reducing prices, he said.
"In 2 years we are seeing that the Modi Government is breaking all records on price rise. Wholesale Price Index has grown in significantly between April to May," Mr Maken said.
Wondering as to whom the BJP is going to blame for these high prices, he asked whether they are going to blame the Opposition for this as well.
He posed the question whether prices of pulses are high because crony capitalists close to the BJP can profit because they have business interests in this sector.
He also attacked the government for high prices of petrol and diesel when international prices of crude oil were at historic lows.
Faulting the government for putting "excessive" tax on fuel, he said that as per current international prices ruling at 58 dollars a barrel, petrol should cost Rs 38 per litre.
