"Nawaz Sharif is afraid of the (Pakistani) establishment and PM Modi of extremists in India. That is why they held a meeting in secret," Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf chief said.
Lahore:
Pakistani cricketer-turned-politician Imran Khan on Thursday slammed Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif for acting in a "cowardly" manner by holding a "secret" meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the SAARC summit in Kathmandu last year which was denied by the Pakistan government.
Criticising Nawaz Sharif, Mr Khan said, "A leader shows courage. He is not afraid of any one. Nawaz Sharif and Narendra Modi held a secret meeting." He went on to say that a leader does "not need to hold meetings in secret. In fact Nawaz Sharif is afraid of the (Pakistani) establishment."
"By doing so the he acted in a cowardly manner and lost credibility," he said.
Addressing a press conference, Mr Khan called Nawaz Sharif a "vision-less" leader.
Reacting sharply to Mr Khan's statement, Mr Sharif's spokesperson Musaddaq Malik said, "Imran Khan should be ashamed of himself for levelling baseless allegations against Mr Sharif," adding that no such meeting ever took place.
