Chandigarh:
In what can be seen as an embarrassment for the Bharatiya Janata Party-Shiromani Akali Dal government in Punjab, BJP MP Navjot Singh Sidhu's wife has endorsed Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi's controversial drug remark. Mr Gandhi, in a speech at Punjab University last week, had said that "seven out of 10 youth in Punjab have drug problems."
Dr Navjot Kaur, a chief parliamentary secretary in the Parkash Singh Badal-led government, spoke about launching a campaign against drug menace in the state in a press conference.
The event, incidentally, was held at Punjab University, where Mr Gandhi made his comment. It came right after Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal addressed a press conference where he slammed Mr Gandhi for his comments.
Mr Badal even said that the survey which the Congress general secretary talked about was conducted when Punjab had a Congress government.
