Ludhiana: Senior BJP leader and former Amritsar MP Navjot Singh Sidhu today accused the ruling Akali regime in Punjab of converting politics into a commercial venture.
In an apparent swipe at Shiromani Akali Dal's slogan of 'Raj Nahi, Sewa (service, not rule)', Sidhu said, "For them (Akalis) it is only 10 per cent sewa (service) and 90 per cent mewa (commercial gain)."
The cricketer-turned-politician said this while addressing the inaugural function of Jagnath Rath Yatra in Ludhiana on Sunday evening.
Without naming any party or leader, the three-time MP said that the time has come to root out corrupt leaders. "This could be possible only if the people of the state stand united against corruption," he said.
He called upon the people to fight for truth and stand against corruption and injustice.
Sidhu had also attacked the Akalis, who rule Punjab in alliance with the BJP, while campaigning for BJP candidates in Haryana during recent assembly polls.
