Raipur: A Naxal was killed and a jawan of CoBRA force of CRPF was injured in a fierce gun-battle in Chhattisgarh's Sukma district yesterday, police said.
The skirmish took place in restive Burkapal forests under Chintagufa police station limits when a joint squad of CRPF's elite CoBRA (Compact Battalion for Resolute Action) and district police was carrying out an anti-Naxal operation, a senior police official told PTI.
While cordoning off forests between Burkapal and Chintagufa, a group of 20-30 Naxals opened fire when security personnel reached near a rivulet, he said.
After the gun-fight that lasted for around half-an-hour, ultras fled to the deep forest. Constable Satpal of CoBRA's 206th battalion sustained bullet injuries.
"During a search, body of a rebel was found and two magazines of SLR rifle were also recovered," the officer said.
The injured jawan was brought to Chintagufa from where he was airlifted to Raipur for treatment.
Security forces returned to the camp. Identity of the killed Naxal was yet to be ascertained.
