Nagpur:
Anti-Naxal squad of Maharashtra Police, say that they have evidence that several Naxal outfits are recruiting cadres from universities.
Nagpur's colleges have now come under the anti-Naxal radar of the police.
Pankaj Gupta, IG, Anti-Naxal operations said, ",We have clear proof of such activities in Chandrapur and Nagpur. Many of these students change their names, procure fake certificates and get admitted on many occasions even if they are graduates, they readmit in colleges to further their work.",
In Maharashtra the Naxalite movement has always had urban sympathisers but little urban presence.
Experts say in the last couple of years more and more tribals have joined the ranks, frustrated by the growing inequalities.
Their struggle is confined to the fringe towns and jungle areas of Chandrapur and Gadchiroli.
R P Gan, Principal, PWS College said, ",We have been told to keep records of all the students and keep a watch. Also to arrange awareness programmes for the students. We have organised a disciplinary committee which keeps an eye on the students and reports if it sights any student distributing Naxal handbills or pamphlets.
Some months ago, students allegedly working for a Naxal outfit, Desh Bhakti Yuwa Manch were arrested in Chandrapur.
Now police have shortlisted such colleges and issued directives to the administration there to keep a vigil.
