Naxals on major offensive in Bihar, Jharkhand

Lakhisarai, Bihar: The second day of their two-day bandh saw Naxals on a rampage in both Bihar and Jharkhand.

Day 2 started with a brazen attack on a railway station in Bihar's Lakhisarai district.

Several other attacks followed in which the Naxals blew up two block offices, railway tracks and a telephone tower.

Armed Naxals set fire to a railway station room in the Lakhisarai district around midnight and held railway employees captive for over two hours.

Nearly 200 Naxals raided the Banshipur railway station in Patna-Kiul section and burnt a cabin room.

After attacking the Banshipur station, the Naxals also laid siege on Mananpur Railway Station. The Naxalites later managed to escape.

Senior police officials reached the spot soon after receiving the information about the attack. A combing operation has been launched to apprehend the Naxals.

The crucial Howrah-Delhi rail route was blocked overnight and all trains running on that route were affected.

The Naxals had also blown up a telephone tower of a private company in Aurangabad in Bihar.

Sangrampur block office in the Munger districtof Bihar was also blown up. Most of the official records were destroyed in the incidentthat happened between 1 am and 3 am in the morning.

Naxals also blew up a railway track at Narganjo halt in the Jamui district of Bihar. This station is further down the Banshipur and Mananpur railway stations on the Delhi-Howrah down line. The attack happened early morning resulting in disruption of train traffic.

A block office in the Chanan block of the Lakhisarai district of Bihar was also blown up early morning. No casualties have been reported from here however, some property has been destroyed.

Meanwhile in Jharkhand, Naxals have blown up railway track near Yogeshwar Vihar Railway Station in Ramgarh district. The incident happened on Dhanbad-Barkakana railway track.

PTI adds Maoists raided Bankepur Bazaar and blasted mobile tower of private company in Gaya district early on Tuesday.

Nobody was injured in the incidents perpetrated by the ultras, who left pamphlets owning responsibility for the violence, officials said.

The Naxals also blew up a school building in Chatra district of Jharkhand. "A group of armed Maoists packed dynamites inside the Nawadih Middle School and triggered the blast, damaging its three rooms," Superintendent of Police, D B Sharma, said.

These attacks come a day after the Naxals killed the deputy director and assistant manager of Panam coal mine in Pakur district of Jharkhand.

The Naxals had called for a two-day bandh to protest against the Centre's alleged efforts to put down their campaign by force.
