Guwahati: Mohit Hojai, the chief executive member of N C Hills autonomous council in Assam, has been arrested on charges of links with a Dimasa militant outfit DHD(J).
Hojai was absconding since March this year after two of his men were arrested in Guwahati with a crore as payoff to an arms dealer for a major arms consignment of AK-47 rifles meant for DHD(J). The consignment was, however, delivered.
Hojai surprisingly surfaced in Halflong on 22nd May and held a press conference but the police did not arrest him then.
Hojai has a cousin who is one of the top ranking leaders of DHD(J).
Large amount of funds are alleged to have been siphoned off by Hojai to the militant outfit.
In the last three months, N C Hills has been very disturbed. Some 225 houses have been burnt and more than 30 people have been killed there. Train have been targeted as well. The militants have been going all out abducting, killing and extorting.
