New Delhi: Congress leader Narayan Dutt Tiwari was reprimanded today for "open contempt of court" because of his attempts to duck a paternity test. Angry judges at the Delhi High Court said that on Monday, court officials will decide when Mr Tiwari, now 86 years old, will have to submit his blood sample.
The judges also reiterated an earlier warning that if the politician does not cooperate, the Delhi Police is authorized to intervene.
Rohit Shekhar, 32 years old, has taken Mr Tiwari to court, demanding a DNA test to determine whether the Congressman is his biological father. Mr Tiwari has denied the allegations and has tried different legal routes to avoid submitting a blood sample.
The High Court today said that officials will ensure that blood samples are collected from the politician, Mr Shkehar, and his mother, Ujjwala.
Mr Tiwari has served as Governor of Andhra Pradesh and Chief Minister of Uttarakhand.
