NDTV has won the award for best mobile app in the media category at the Mobile Appies awards, launched this year by GSF Accelerator, India's largest tech-startup accelerator.
The awards recognize the most innovative mobile apps that "have created a paradigm shift in consumer behavior in India," a GSF press release said.
52 apps competed in 13 categories, four in each. The others nominated in the media category were the Times of India, CNBC and NewsHunt apps.
Other winners include Whatsapp in the messaging category, OLX for classifieds, MakeMyTrip for travel and Flipkart for M-commerce.
GSF said the winners were selectedby an expert panel and through public voting online. The apps in the running for each category were rated on Design (User Interface/User Experience), Features, User Base, App Store Ratings and a category-related criterion.
GSF Accelerator has funded 33 start-ups in three batches since its launch in 2012. It has a network of 50 plus Entrepreneurs-in-Residence and 300 mentors across the world and provides support to startups in five key areas - Product Development (MVP), Go-To-Market Strategy, Global Expansion, PR & Marketing and Fund-raising.
