NEW DELHI: An IndiGo aircraft flying from Srinagar to Delhi was involved in a near-miss incident with a Border Security Force plane carrying Union Home Secretary Rajiv Mehrishi on Friday. Asked, an IndiGo spokesperson confirmed the incident.

The spokesperson said IndiGo flight Delhi- Srinagar was maintaining its flight level of 26,000 feet when its pilot noticed that another aircraft, a BSF plane, was at 25,000 feet and climbing. News agency Press Trust of India said Home Secretary Rajiv Mehrishi was travelling in the BSF aircraft.

The IndiGo pilot alerted the Air Traffic Control but before traffic controllers could react, the aircraft's traffic alert and collision avoidance system also kicked in. It asked the airline to take action to avoid any untoward situation, the spokesperson said. "IndiGo pilot followed the standard operating procedures and proactively informed the regulator," he said.
