New Delhi: Nepalese Army Chief Gen Gaurav Shumsher Rana will be conferred with the title of honorary General of the Indian Army by President Pranab Mukherjee in New Delhi on Tuesday.
Mr Rana, who assumed the top post in September, is visiting India at the invitation of his Indian counterpart Gen Bikram Singh.
The Nepalese Army chief would be conferred the title of honorary General of Indian Army at a ceremony by the President as per the long-held tradition of conferring the title on each other's army chiefs, Army officials said.
Since 1965, both the armies have been conferring the honorary rank of General on each other's army chiefs in view of the close military ties shared by the two neighbours.
During his maiden visit, Mr Rana on Monday called on Defence Minister A K Antony and Bikram Singh during which the two sides discussed the ways of further strengthening their military ties.
He is also scheduled to visit several formations other than meeting the top military leadership of the country.
