New BEd Exam for UP on June 19 after paper was leaked

Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh government on Wednesday night ordered a high-level inquiry into the leak of the question paper of the combined entrance examination for admission in B.Ed course, even as the Lucknow University (LU) announced June 19 as the fresh date for the exam and initiated its own probe.

"While fixing June 19 as the date for entrance examination, it has been proposed to announce result by July 19 and start counselling by July 25," official sources said.

The new session is likely start from the first week of August, they said.

The LU, which is conducting the examination, has ordered an inquiry to be conducted by the pro-Vice-Chancellor as to how and from where the question papers got leaked, they said.

The state government has also ordered a high-level inquiry into the test papers leak.

Meanwhile, the LU has asked the aspirants to retain their admit cards as it would be treated as identification card during the June 19 examination.

Directives have been issued to the district magistrates concerned to constitute teams under their supervision for carrying out inquiries in the presence of representatives of the printing press, Secretary (higher education) Anil Sant said.

The inquiry teams will check the seals of the packets of question papers and answer sheets, Sant said, adding that in case of any anomaly, the DMs would report it immediately to the government.

The LU Vice-Chancellor has been asked to instruct the printing press concerned to cooperate with the probe, Sant said.

The examination, which was scheduled to be held on Thursday, was cancelled after the leakage of the question paper in Farukkhabad on Wednesday night.

Police, which arrested four persons along with computerised and handwritten copies of the B.Ed exam, recovered 600 Xerox copies of the test papers.

Around 6.92 lakh aspirants were scheduled to appear in the examination to be held in 12 districts of the state.
