The Mulayam-Amar war is getting murkier; the Samajwadi Party (SP) supremo is shutting all doors on his estranged lieutenant. (

In a clear signal, the party posts vacated by Amar Singh went to all his rivals. Mulayam elevated old socialist colleague and Amar Singh baiter Mohan Singh to the post of General Secretary. And the first thing he had to say was on Amar Singh.
"Taking moral responsibility Amar Singh should resign from the Rajya Sabha seat," said Mohan Singh, SP General Secretary.
Amar Singh had recently quit all party posts over differences with relatives of the SP chief.
The move also counters Amar Singh's plans to draw UP's Thakurs and most backwards castes. Mohan Singh is a Thakur, other posts have gone to most backward castes (MBCs).
In Delhi Amar Singh's birthday bash had a sprinkling of Bollywood stars and industrialist but it lacked the slice of politics, with Mulayam absent. But Amar who plans to keep his Rajya Sabha seat, rejected the resignation demand.
"Why should I resign on a call by an ordinary mortal," said Amar Singh, estranged SP leader.
The SP top brass stayed away from Amar's birthday bash, sign that tensions are mounting. Amar has realised his space in SP is shrinking but he doesn't want to give up the advantage of being a rival and an insider.
Earlier on Wednesday, SP Chief Mulayam Singh Yadavappointed three new party General Secretaries in place of Amar Singh,Obaidullah Azmi and Sanjay Dutt. Besides Mohan Singh, the two otherGeneral Secretaries are Vishambhar Prasad Nishad and Ramasare Kushwaha.
