New contraceptive device for women launched

Chandigarh: A new contraceptive device for women has been introduced by the Haryana Health Department which has advantages over the conventional contraceptives. Intra Uterine Contraceptive Device (IUCD) known as Cu-IUCD 375 was introduced here today by the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) Mission Director Rakesh Gupta. Women will get this new contraceptive free of cost at any government health institution in the state, he said in a release.

Citing the advantages, Gupta said Cu-IUCD 375 is easy to insert and is effective for five years as compared to conventional contraceptive "Cu-T", popularly known as 'copper T'.

All Auxiliary Nurse Midwives (ANMs) will be trained by the Haryana Health Department about how to insert this new device as a choice among women for family planning method, he said.

The training to the ANMs would be imparted in coordination with Hindustan Family Planning Promotion Limited (HFPPL) for which an MoU was being signed by the Health Department, he added.
