New Delhi: As part of efforts to check mushrooming of political parties, the Election Commission (EC) has come out with a set of new guidelines and conditions for their registration.
Under the new guidelines which would come into force from October 15, a political party seeking registration is required to get an advertisement published in two national and two local dailies giving the name and address of the party and its main office bearers.
This was aimed at giving an opportunity to a person to place his objection before the commission on the registration of the party, the EC said in a press note on Friday.
Under the Representation of the People Act, 1951, a party seeking registration has to submit an application to the EC within 30 days following the date of its formation with certain basic particulars like party name, address, membership details and names of officer bearers.
"The Commission has from time to time prescribed additional particulars to be furnished by applicant parties," it added.
