New metro line will cut cost and time for Delhi commuters
New Delhi: Here's some good news for all Delhi metro riders. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) will soon be opening the new Kirti Nagar-Ashok Park Metro line, which will not only reduce fares but cut down the travelling time as well.

Because of this link, the cost and time of travel will come down by more than 50 per cent on some routes. For example, commuters travelling from Dwarka to any destination on Line 1(Dilshad Garden-Rithala) and 5 (Inderlok-Mundka) will be able to avail the interchange facilities at Kirti Nagar and Ashok Park Main. They will not have to go to Rajiv Chowk or Kashmere Gate to change stations.

DMRC spokesperson Anuj Dayal said, "The new line is going to benefit a large number of commuters. It will help decongest the busy Rajiv Chowk and Kashmere Gate interchange stations."

Reportedly, managing director E Sreedharan inspected this section on Friday, and expressed satisfaction about the completion of work on the stretch. It will be opened soon after the Commissioner for Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) gives the safety clearance.

Meanwhile, commuters were more than happy with the news. Aditi Khanna, a student whose fashion designing institute is in Kirti Nagar, said, "Coming all the way from Paschim Vihar to Kirti Nagar daily is a tedious task. It will be so comfortable once I will have to take only one train." Trial runs on the 3.3km- stretch have been in progress since July 14.
