New Delhi: A day after the launch of a new pension scheme, the Election Commission has slapped a notice on the Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA), charging it with "non-compliance" of poll panel's directions on advertisements that appeared in newspapers.

Observing that the contents of the advertisement, which appeared on Friday were at "great variance" from the one that was cleared, the EC asked the PFRDA to respond by 5 pm on May 5.

The Commission in its notice said it had given permission for an advertisement regarding the scheme with the stipulation that there would be no picture of 'clock' as it was a symbol of a recognised political party.

The EC noted that though the PFRDA had confirmed on April one that it would adhere to the EC's advice, there was "deviation and non-compliance" on the contents of the advertisement.

"The Commission has decided to ask for the comments and explanation of your Organisation (PFRDA) for the deviation and non-compliance", the EC said in its notice served on the Executive Director of the Authority.

The CPM had moved the EC on Friday complaining that the advertisements amounted to violation of the model code of conduct. On the occasion of the May Day, the government had brought out an advertisement on the New Pension Scheme (NPS) which assures the common man a safety net for old age.
