A newborn baby girl wrapped in a polythene bag was pulled out of a drain by stray dogs in Haryana's Kaithal district this morning, the police said. The dogs then started barking, which alerted passers-by.
Doctors at Civil Hospital where the baby is being treated said her condition is serious. She has injuries on her head, doctors said.
In a CCTV footage, a woman is seen throwing the baby into a drain at the town's Dogran Gate area on Friday.
"The newborn has received injuries on her head and is undergoing treatment. We will fully cooperate with the police," said Dr Dinesh Kansal, Principal Medical Officer.
The newborn baby weighing 1.15 kg was brought to the hospital at 6 am by the police.
The police said they are analysing the CCTV footage to identity the woman.
"We will take strict action against the person who has thrown this girl in the drainage," said Pradeep Kumar, a police officer who is handling the case.
