New Delhi: The newly-appointed Deoband chief Maulana Ghulam Mohammed Vastanvi has announced his resignation.
The MBA chief of one of Islam's most influential schools took over just a few days ago, but his controversial comments on Narendra Modi got him into trouble. He had allegedly praised the Gujarat Chief Minister.
Vastanvi, who had recently praised development works in Gujarat, had earlier clarified that he had not given a clean chit to Modi in the 2002 riots.
"Those who were involved in Gujarat riots should be punished," the cleric told reporters on Saturday at the seminary after taking charge as Vice Chancellor and added that he has never praised the BJP leader.
