Babu Lal Kushwaha, the BSP MLA from Dholpur, was detained by police for his alleged involvement in a chit fund scam.
A newly-elected legislator from Rajasthan was on his way to the assembly for the very first time when he was picked up at the gates by police who had been lying in wait for him since January 21, when the new assembly session began.

As he was reportedly afraid of the police waiting for him at the gates of the vidhan sabha, checking each vehicle that went in, he was unable to take the oath on the first day of the assembly session, when the other first-time MLAs did.
As per the rules, if newly-elected MLAs don't make it to the assembly within 60 days of the new session being constituted and take oath, their seat falls vacant and a by-election has to be held.
On Thursday, armed with an anticipatory bail order from the Rajasthan High court, Mr Kushwaha finally tried to enter the assembly. However, the police picked him up at the gate and took him to the station, where he was made to wait for two hours till a copy of the order was produced.
By then, it was too late for Mr Kushwaha to take oath as the assembly session for the day was over. He will now have to try and take oath another day - he has up till end of February when the present session concludes.
Mr Kushwaha had once served as director in the Garima Estates, a Madhya Pradesh based company, which had reportedly defrauded many people by promising to double their investments. Two directors of the company, who were recently arrested, allegedly named him in the scam.
