Chicago: The National Investigating Agency (NIA) is not confirming rumors that David Coleman Headley, the 26/11 accused, is being uncooperative but the team is in Chicago for another week at least and are expected to meet with Headley again if not a few more times. The team is headed by Inspector- General Loknath Behera.
The man who will be sitting across the table from India's most wanted terrorist is an ace investigator.
While at the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), Behera over saw the investigation into some of India's biggest and most sensational crimes from the Purulia arms drop case to Graham Staines murder and that of poet Madhumita Shukla in Uttar Pradesh. He is a 1985-batch IPS officer of the Kerala cadre.
Behera was recently awarded the President's Medal for Distinguished Service, the only officer in the National Investigation Agency to do so.
If Behera's record is any indication, Headley could be in for some tough questioning. The actual investigation could take place at various venues in Chicago.
Given the sensitivities involved in this case, all authorities are being extremely tight-lipped and some concrete information can be expected only once the team is through with its questioning and when they, along with the US authorities, will come out with a joint statement in Chicago.
