Srinagar: The night temperature across Kashmir division increased by several degrees today and settled above the freezing point at most places, providing relief to the residents.
Srinagar - the summer capital of the state - recorded the minimum temperature of 3.9 degrees Celsius - an increase of over five degrees from the previous night's minus 1.3 degrees Celsius, an official of the Meteorological Department said.
He said the famous ski-resort of Gulmarg in north Kashmir registered the low of 2.0 degree Celsius, up from the previous night's 0.8 degree Celsius.
Pahalgam hill resort in south Kashmir registered the minimum temperature of 2.9 degrees Celsius - up by over five degrees from minus 2.2 degrees Celsius yesterday.
Kupwara, in north Kashmir, registered the low of 2.5 degrees Celsius compared to the previous night's minus 2.9 degrees Celsius, the official said.
He said the minimum in Kokernag town in south Kashmir settled at 3.4 degrees Celsius as compared to the previous night's 0.4 degree Celsius.
Qazigund - the gateway town to Kashmir Valley - recorded the low of zero degrees Celsius against yesterday's minus 1.0 degrees Celsius.
The night temperature in Leh in Ladakh region of Jammu and Kashmir registered an increase of one-and-a-half degrees from minus 4.6 degrees Celsius yesterday and settled at the low of minus 3.1 degrees Celsius, he said.
The official said the nearby Kargil town recorded the minimum temperature of zero degrees Celsius - up by nearly four degrees from the previous night's minus 4.4 degrees Celsius.
The Meteorological Department has forecast cloudy sky with possibility of light rain or snow at few places in the state over the next 24 hours, the official said, adding the weather is likely to remain dry for few days afterwards.
