Jammu:
The BJP in Jammu and Kashmir today sought withdrawal of criminal cases against non-local students of the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar, terming the registration of FIR as a decision taken in haste to curb the voice of nationalism.
"BJP has asked for withdrawal of FIR registered against non-local students in NIT incident. The decision was taken in haste and to gag voice of nationalism in the Valley which shouldn't have been done," BJP chief spokesman Sunil Sethi said in a statement.
The party said students were raising slogans for the country which is not crime rather it should have been encouraged and protected by the institution, police and local administration.
"The act of unprovoked brutal baton charge without justification on hapless students was an act of provocation and harassment, which started chain of events against the interest of state," he said.
He said that the situation can still be controlled by withdrawing FIR against non-local students and providing them adequate safety and security.
