Karaikal: The agitation by the students of National Institute of Technology (NIT) in Karaikal demanding improvement of facilities and basic amenities in the institution and removal of its director entered the fifth day today.
The students have intensified their agitation with a hunger strike and announced that the agitation would continue until a representative from the Union Ministry of Human Resources Development visited the campus for talks.
In a representation to the Union HRD Minister, the students said "We raised the problems with regard to infrastructure facilities and basic amenities several times, but the Director SK Pandy neglected our genuine demands."
NIT was functioning Karaikal from July, 2010 from its makeshift location, Aringnar Anna Government Arts College at Nehru Nagar in Karaikal.
Permanent campus construction works commenced only in 2013 and yet to be completed.
Complaining lack of infrastructure facilities, including class rooms, library, computer facilities, placement opportunities and incompetent teachers, about 350 BTech students in the institution commenced strike on April 20.
