Mumbai:
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Saturday made another pitch for special category status for Bihar saying that even the industry conglomerate Confederation of Indian Industry or CII endorses his demand.
Attending a meeting of Bihar special advisory council in Mumbai, Mr Kumar said that many in CII have endorsed that Bihar should get assistance under special category status. At the meeting, he also sought opinion on how to improve the state's indutrial's policy to attract investments.
"Bihar should get special category status. The Raghuram Rajan report has created this possibility. We have written a letter to the Finance Minister saying that Bihar should get all the benefits granted to a special category state," the Bihar Chief Minister said.
Using a 'Multi Dimensional Index (MDI)', the Rajan report stated that Odisha and Bihar are among the least developed states in India. It also suggested that each state should get a basic fixed allocation of Central funds and an additional allocation depending on its development needs and development performance.
Mr Kumar was in Mumbai for the launch of former Union Minister George Fernandes' book 'George, Neta, Saathi aur Mitr.'
