New Delhi: Varun Gandhi will have to spend some more time in jail as the Supreme Court has adjourned the hearing on his bail plea till Thursday.
The apex court said that Varun can be free provided he gives in writing to the court that he will make no provocative speeches during his campaign. Varun's lawyer told the court that he we give the undertaking.
Now, the SC has asked the Uttar Pradesh government if Varun gives an undertaking, will it be acceptable for the UP government?
Varun is in Etah jail for the last couple of weeks after being booked under NSA by the Mayawati government for his hate speech in Pilibhit.
Varun Gandhi had filed a petition challenging his detention under National Security Act.
Varun had alleged that his arrest is a fallout of political vendetta to stop him from contesting elections and his detention is illegal. However, the Mayawati government has denied these allegations in its reply and said Varun's detention is a must to keep public order in place.
