Ahmedabad:
The ban on Jaswant Singh's book in Gujarat has been lifted, at least temporarily.
The High Court has said the Gujarat government needs to explain its reason for banning the book, which has been controversial because it praises Mohammed Ali Jinnah, and criticises Sardar Patel.
The high court says that the current notification by Narendra Modi's government shows "a lack of thinking and understanding". The government is free to improve upon this notification, but in the meantime, the ban has been lifted.
Modi banned the book within days of it being released. He's the only BJP chief minister to have taken this sort of action. Jaswant Singh was expelled last month from the BJP after 30 years in service for releasing this book.
