New Delhi: An Indian national has been arrested in a rape case in Zimbabwe's Harare, but reports of a cricketer's involvement are false, foreign ministry sources have told NDTV.

"We have  spoken to our Ambassador to Zimbabwe. The report is totally false. No Indian cricketer is involved," a source in the ministry said.

The man arrested is affiliated with one of the sponsors, but he has denied the charge and said he is ready to take a DNA test to prove his innocence, sources said.

Quoting a report in a Zimbabwe daily, a section of Indian media had reported that a cricketer -- whose name has been withheld by the local authorities -- has been arrested.

The complaint came from a woman who had alleged that she had been drugged and then assaulted at the Meikles hotel in Harare, where the Indian team is staying.

The Indian cricket team is currently on a tour in Zimbabwe.
