No dates set for military-level talks with Pakistan, say top government sources

Moscow: The Indian government is reportedly willing to allow the Director-General of Military Operations (DGMO) try and device a roadmap for lowering the tension on the Line of Control (LoC) before taking a call on how to proceed with the larger relationship.

According to top government sources, the DGMOs are in constant touch over recent incidents on the LoC, but no dates have been fixed on a possible meeting between the two military officers, although some reports in a section of Pakistani media have said such there is possibility of a meeting on Monday.

Sources in the Indian government said an assessment on the recent increase in ceasefire violations on the LoC and the International Border is currently on at the highest levels.

"Conclusions on possible Pakistan behaviour will be drawn based on this assessment," the sources added.

While admitting that the number of ceasefire violations has shown an increase in comparison to previous years, the Indian security establishment points out that this time of the year violations normally show a spike since the firing is linked to intrusions from across the border and attempts to push in as many infiltrators as possible before the winter sets in.

In 2012, there were 117 ceasefire violations in the entire year while in 2013, till 18 October there have already been 200-plus violations.
