Union Environment Minister, Prakash Javdekar has asked the Congress to shun its bravado and start debating issues in Parliament.
New Delhi:
Union minister Prakash Javdekar today hit back at the Congress President Sonia Gandhi and her son Rahul Gandhi, saying that there is no DNA of democracy in their party, after Mrs Gandhi had termed the suspension of 25 Congress lawmakers from the Lok Sabha as "murder of democracy."
Mr Javdekar said, "I am surprised that Congress is talking about democracy. The whole party is undemocratic. To see it use the language of democracy is like satan reading the Bible. There is no democracy in its DNA. Even today mother is the party president and son is its vice-president."
The minister has blamed the "ma-beta" (mother-son) duo for the disruption of monsoon session of Parliament. He also claims that all efforts of the government to break the impasse have failed due to the Congress backing out.
Mr Javdekar said, "Sonia and Rahul Gandhi are squarely responsible for the logjam. The Speaker's decision to suspend 25 members is right."
Yesterday, the Lok Sabha Speaker, Sumitra Mahajan, had suspended 25 Congress lawmakers for five days for "persistently, wilfully obstructing" the House, this was also the first time that so many lawmakers have faced disciplinary action together.
The 64-year-old cited the use of marshals in Rajya Sabha in 2010, when the Congress led UPA government had removed eight lawmakers of the Samajwadi Party who were protesting against the Women's Reservation Bill. The Bill was eventually passed in the Upper House.
Asking the opposition party to shun its bravado and start debating issues, the minister said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will speak in Parliament, provided the Congress allows the House to function smoothly.
