New Delhi:
No decision was taken on Thursday for shortlisting three senior IPS officers for the post of CBI Director during a high-level meeting chaired by Central Vigilance Commissioner Pradeep Kumar.
Mr Kumar met CBI Director Amar Pratap Singh, who retires on November 30, and senior officials from the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) to decide on three names, one of whom will be selected for the next chief of the investigating agency, sources said.
Among the names being considered to head the top post of the country's premier probe agency are Ranjit Sinha, a 1974 batch IPS officer of Bihar cadre, SC Sinha (Haryana:1975), Neeraj Kumar (AGMUT:1976) and VK Gupta (Gujarat:1977).
While Ranjit heads the Indo Tibetan Border Police force, Mr Sinha is at present Director General of National Investigation Agency, Mr Kumar the Delhi Police Commissioner and Mr Gupta is working as Special Director at CBI headquarters in Delhi.
Sources said the meeting has not decided on the three names to be put before the Appointments Committee of Cabinet headed by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
Mr Kumar will hold another meeting on October 30 to finalise the names, they said.
Mr Singh took reins of the CBI in November 2010 for a fixed period of two years.
During his tenure, the CBI handled several high-profile corruption cases, including the 2G spectrum, Commonwealth Games and coal blocks allocation scam among others.
