Mumbai: A storm is brewing for Qasab's defence lawyer Abbas Kazmi within his own community. Islam gymkhana, one of oldest clubs patronised by the Musilm community, has removed Kazmi from the trusteeship of the club.
The club has written a letter to Kazmi saying: "You having agreed to defend the most dreadful and confirmed terrorist Ajmal Kasab is against the essence of Islam and there is no place for terrorism in Islam," - KC Kasam, Chairman, Islam Gymkhana.
"What forced him to take-up Kasabs case? There was no pressure .Over 15 lawyers were invited by the court. He volunteered himself. He should understand this is against Islam," said Zakaullah Siddique, Chairman, Islam Gymkhana.
But the problem for Kazmi does not end here. The gymkhana may even terminate his membership from the club. A special general body meeting of 1500 member will be held next week to deliberate on the same.
In the past, the Shiv Sena had objected to Anjali Waghmare as Qasab lawyer and now members of the Muslim community are showing their disapproval. It is clear that the role of being Qasab's lawyer carries its crown of thorn.
