Lucknow: In a move aimed at ensuring road safety, the Uttar Pradesh government has directed petrol pump owners to not give fuel to two-wheeler riders without helmets.
The directives were issued on Tuesday at the behest of state Transport Minister Raja Aridaman Singh.
After the orders from the minister, transport officials and police have been asked to check for the implementation of the diktat.
Lucknow accounts for the highest number of road mishaps involving two wheelers in the state.
The traffic officials have begun a telephone number helpline on which fuel station managers of the state capital can lodge complaints with regards to non-compliant motorists.
The minister has also made an appeal to parents to not allow their children to drive without helmets.
Sources say the move has also been set rolling keeping in mind the onset of winters, when frequent dense fogs lead to road accidents.
