Mumbai: Maharashtra Home Minister R R Patil today said that the state feels no need to further investigate the 2010 Pune German Bakery Blast case.
"In a case that has been proved in court, the police and the government do not feel the need for further investigation," Mr Patil told reporters.
Himayat Mirza Baig, death row convict of Pune's German Bakery blast, has approached Bombay High Court seeking reinvestigation into his case by a neutral agency or a court-appointed Special Investigation Team (SIT).
Baig's lawyer Mehmood Parcha, had moved an application before the High Court seeking a fresh probe claiming that he had not been given a fair chance and also alleged that elite Anti-Terror Squad of Maharashtra Police had even ensured hijacking of the trial by manipulating a defence lawyer. The application will be heard by the court on September 23.
A Pune court had sentenced alleged Indian Mujahideen operative Himayat Baig to death in the case. The terror attack on the popular Pune joint had killed 17 people and injured 64 in February 2010.
The case had been investigated by the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorist Squad.
