Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government on Friday announced that there would be no power cuts till June 30 to bringing much needed relief for people from the heat wave in the state.

The government took the decision as Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) predicts delay in arrival of monsoon in the state.

"We are generating around 3,300-4,000 MW from various sources while the peak hours demand is 4,100 MW. To meet the demand, 50-60 megawatt is being brought through power banking from Delhi and Punjab," said Energy Minister Pranab Prakash Das after holding a review meeting in Bhubaneswar.

The government would take next decision on power cuts after a review meeting on May 30, the minister added. He said the reservoirs in the state are having water for the next 15 days.

Besides, the government expects marginal increase of water level as the IMD predicts Odisha may receive heavy to very heavy rains due to formation of a cyclonic storm over Bay of Bengal. Sources said the water level in Balimela is at 30 feet and in Kolab around 3 metre water is in reserve.
