Chennai: Will Heum, accused of sexually abusing children and posting child pornographic content on the web will not walk out of the Chennai Prison on Thursday.
It was earlier said that Heum might be set free on Thursday on a surety of rupees one lakh.
Heum got bail six weeks ago because the Chennai Police was unable to file a chargesheet within the stipulated three-month period. The police finally did file a chargesheet about a fortnight ago.
Sources in the police department say efforts are now on to include non-bailable sections to prevent him from walking free.
Heum, a Dutch citizen, has been accused in separate cases of sexuallyabusing children, and of posting child pornography on the internet.
Heum was in prison because he had not been able to provide a lakh as his bail bond. That formality, however, has now been completed by his lawyers.
Activists point out that Heum allegedly committed his second crime - of internet child pornography - after he was granted bail in 2002 for sexually abusing young boys at an orphanage run by him in Tamil Nadu.
Heum arrived in India in 1991 and has been staying in Tamil Nadu on the basis of a series of tourist visas.
