Shying away from taking any stand on gay sex, the government has virtually left it to the Supreme Court to decide on the 'correctness' of the Delhi High Court order decriminalising homosexuality.
Following a Union Cabinet meeting on Thursday to consider the issue, Information and Broadcasting Minister Ambika Soni said, "The Cabinet has asked Attorney General G Vahanvati to assist the Supreme Court in arriving at an opinion on the correctness of the judgement of the High Court."
To a volley of questions, she repeated the same formulation of her statement, maintaining that she was not authorised to 'explain' further.
According to another minister, the Cabinet decided against taking any stand on the issue to avoid getting caught in any controversy, leaving it to the Apex court to take a view.
