Nobody is above the law: Moily on Modi

Nobody is above the law: Moily on Modi
Ahmedabad: With Narendra Modi appearing before the Special Investigation Team in connection with a 2002 riots case, the Centre on Saturday said it was "unfortunate" that a chief minister has "landed" himself in such a situation.

"It is most unfortunate that he (Modi) landed himself to that kind of a situation. It is not desirable but unfortunately it has happened," Union Law Minister M Veerappa Moily told reporters here.

To a question on Modi 'questioning' the validity of the SIT summons to him, Moily said "he (the Gujarat CM) is questioning the Supreme Court decision, he should understand what he is doing."

The Law Minister said that by questioning the authority of SIT, Modi was "questioning the authority of the Supreme Court which has constituted the SIT." He also reminded him that the SIT is empowered by the apex court in summoning him.

He said the development also demonstrated that nobody was above the law. "Rule of law is equal to everyone," he said.
