New Delhi: Inaugurating the international conference on 'Peaceful Uses of Atomic Energy' in the capital, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Tuesday said Global non-proliferation regime has not succeeded in preventing nuclear proliferation.

However, he added that India is committed to voluntary unilateral moratorium.

"Global non-proliferation regime has not succeeded in preventing nuclear proliferation," said the Prime Minister.

He said that as a nuclear weapon state and a responsible member of the international community, India would participate constructively in the negotiations of an FMCT in the Conference on Disarmament. (With PTI inputs)

"India is committed to voluntary unilateral moratorium on nuclear testing. India is proud of its non-proliferation record and is committed to global efforts for preventing the proliferation of all weapons of mass destruction," said the Prime Minister.

Referring to the status of power generation in India, the Prime Minister said that India could generate 470,000 MW of power by 2050 if "we manage three stages of nuclear programme".
