New Delhi:
Most parts of north India are under the grip of swine flu. A prolonged winter has increased the instances of the infection in many states, with Delhi being the worst affected with over 1200 cases of swine flu. 16 deaths have been reported in the national capital because of swine flu.
Over 90 people have died of Swine flu in Gujarat in the past four months - a sudden spurt after no reports of the disease in the last one year. The worst affected areas have been Rajkot, Surat, Vadodara, and Ahmedabad.
As the number of swine flu cases continues to grow, the state government has beefed up its medical services.
In an attempt to contain the infection, special isolation wards have been set up in government hospitals across the state. So far, 510 swine flu cases have been reported in Gujarat this year.
Rajasthan has, meanwhile, reported 124 swine flu deaths this year - highest in the country - out of the 671 cases that have been reported.
The swine flu attack was the worst in 2009 when more than 980 people died and over 27,000 people tested positive. While this year has been better so far, doctors have a simple advice: do not ignore symptoms like breathlessness, high fever or sore throat.
