It's not exactly a garden variety reaction to a patch of grass occasionally being serviced as the stomping ground of a disobedient goat -the police in a
district of Chhattisgarh detained the goat and arrested its owner, Abdul Hassan.
The goat (who does not have a name) in the Korea district may have inadvertently messed with the wrong man -a local judge, whose home grounds presumably offered an irresistible tasting menu for the animal.
On Monday, the goat was arrested and kept at the local police station. And Mr Hassan spent nearly 24 hours in a cell for the follies committed. "My goat had scaled the gate and grazed on the flowers and vegetables in the magistrate's garden. I was then picked up by the police," the goat owner said to reporters.
If the judge whose garden was trespassed didn't intervene to point out courts might have bigger cases to focus on, another was put in the position of granting bail to the goat and owner.
"We will not talk about the issue on camera as it involves a magistrate. There was no pressure from the magistrate. We acted on the complaint filed by the peon of the judge," said police sources on the condition of anonymity.
