Not going to Singapore for leisure: Amar Singh

New Delhi: Rajya Sabha MP and former Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh, who is out on bail in the cash-for-votes-scam, announced today that he will go to Singapore for treatment on November 16. Last week, a Delhi court had allowed him to go abroad for treatment of his kidney ailment.

"There are many rumours against me. I have not sought permission to travel to Singapore for leisure," he said while addressing the presser.

Mr Singh was arrested on September 6 and sent to Tihar jail for his alleged involvement in the bribing of three BJP MPs ahead of a trust vote in Parliament in July 2008. From there, Mr Singh was shifted to AIIMS on September 13 after he complained of vomiting and pain in the kidney.

On September 23, the Delhi High Court granted him bail "on humanitarian grounds." He had sought bail on grounds of poor medical condition.

The 55-year-old leader is diabetic and underwent a renal transplant in September 2009 and intestinal surgery 10 years ago. He also suffers from hypertension, tuberculosis infection, chronic kidney disease and urinary tract infection.
