- The Bellari DSP was transferred in Jan for putting the minister on hold
Bengaluru:
A day after Karnataka police officer Anupama Shenoy's surprise announcement on Facebook about her resignation, PT Parmeshwar Nayak, the minister who was responsible for her transfer earlier, said he has played no part in the latest development.
"I have no connection with her resignation. That is a personal issue. I have played no part in it. I am not connected at all," he said.
In February, the minister had been caught on camera claiming he had got MS Shenoy transferred from Bellary, where she was posted. He was said to have been angry after she had put his phone call on hold. The officer was re-instated following public outrage.
This time, while Ms Shenoy is yet to clarify the reasons for her decision, the opposition BJP has pointed its fingers at the minister.
Underscoring Ms Shenoy's "commitment and efficiency," senior BJP leader Suresh Kumar yesterday said, "I think her commitment her efficiency became a hurdle for minister PT Parmeshwar Nayak."
"The political atmosphere is so much downgraded and for earnest officers, there is no place in this government," Former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda, leader of the Janata Dal (Secular) told NDTV. "This Anupama Shenoy resigns -- did any senior officer call her to say, 'We are with you, don't be disheartened...'
Ms Shenoy's three-words post on her Facebook - "Resigned and jobless" - has stirred up both the political and the police establishment. There has been much speculation on the reason, with most suspecting that the officer quit due to political pressure.
