New Delhi:

National carrier Air India has draped its cabin crew in an all-new uniform, replacing the trademark red, white and black colours for bright mustard, designed by the premier fashion institute NIFT.

The new uniform was launched on the onset of Baisakhi, which is considered an auspicious day in various parts of the country, the airline said in a release.

The uniform has been designed considering the legacy of Air India, incorporating its sun logo and the traditional designs, it said.

The airline had initially proposed to introduce the new uniform last October.

Apart from saree being part of cabin crew uniform, the women cabin crew would don the Indian kurti as well as Western dress.

Having considered the best practices of both the erstwhile companies, the airline has retained the practice of allowing the male cabin crew to stitch their uniforms with the tailors of their choice, Air India said.

The Cabin crew members have already received their initial quota of two sets of all the different types of uniforms, it said.
