North Cachar Hills: It took months before a Central Team decided to visit N C Hills on Wednesday to review the situation. Meanwhile, a humanatarian crisis is unfolding in the hills of North Cachar the government says more than 200 houses have been destroyed in the ethnic clashes.

Though relief camps have been set up in eight different places and have 3,000 inmates, locals tell NDTV that several thousand people have abandoned their villages.

After train services have been suspended and vehicular traffic are off the roads, the crisis they now face is of procuring water and foodgrain as the commodity prices have shot up. Also, hospitals are running out of medicines and there are no health workers.
