Hardik Patel is the face of an agitation seeking reservation for Patels in government jobs and colleges
Ratlam, Madhya Pradesh:
Hardik Patel, who is spearheading an agitation seeking reservation for the Patel community in Gujarat, will be in Madhya Pradesh today to demand quota for the community there.
The 22-year-old, who is the face of an agitation seeking reservation for Patels in government jobs and colleges, will be the chief guest at a Mahapanchayat in Ratlam. The organisers claim over one lakh people will be present.
After Mr Patel was briefly detained during a massive rally in Ahmedabad in August, there was violence in many cities of Gujarat in which 10 people were killed.
In September, he was arrested after he attempted to hold a protest rally in Surat for which he did not have permission.
Though the Gujarat government has announced a Rs. 1,000-crore scheme for economically weak students in a bid to douse the stir, Mr Patel has vowed to continue his agitation.
He alleged that the package does not offer anything substantial to his community and called it a "lollipop" handed to the Patel community.
