Hyderabad:
The trauma for 8 year-old Sonia, adopted by a Hindu couple, doesn't end. Now, the local community says they want this child out of this home and family, not because she is said to belong to another community, but because they allege that her foster father Papalal is using her as an excuse to victimise people in the area. Papalal has booked cases against 22 people here, alleging harassment.
"If the child stays in that house he may do something to her and blame it on us. That is what we are scared about and told the Commission as well. The girl's future is dark. Her life is in danger. To protect the baby, let the baby be shifted to a proper home," said Nand Kishore, community representative.
Locals in the community are questioning if indeed Sonia was found at the site of the Gokul chat bomb blast and why after almost four years the police has still not conclusively established her parentage.
Papalal's wife wife Jayshree said that the legal custody of 8-year-old Sonia has been given to them for the next three months by the Child Welfare Committee. The women and child welfare department would inquire if there are any biological claimants for the child, before the child can be declared free for adoption.
"They are alleging that we made money on the child. If that was the case, would we not have easily paid for his bail? There is no money in my house even for food. We would not be telling all this to the world but now they have made a laughing stock of us. One man taking on 40 people, is it even possible to imagine?'' reasoned Jayshree, foster-mother of Sonia.
Papalal got bail on Tuesday in one of the cases against him. The bail petition in the second case comes up on Wednesday.
