Kancheepuram: Tamil Nadu has become the first state in the country to kickstart the process of setting up a regional hub of the NSG.
In 2 months, the first of the four regional NSG hubs in the country will come up in Tamil Nadu`s Kancheepuram district. Some 85.3 acres of land has been handed over to the National Security Guards.
The hub will initially operate with makeshift tents. Permanent accommodation and training facilities will take a few more months. Two hundred commandos and 50 officers headed by a Lt Colonel will be based here.
Kancheepuram District Collector Santosh Misra says: "This hub will be up and running by June. It will be equipped to handle all threats to Tamil Nadu including terror attacks."
The site is a 15 minute drive from the Chennai Airport and is connected to the State capital through a 4 lane highway.
